Brief communication: Monitoring active layer dynamics using a lightweight nimble ground-penetrating radar system – a laboratory analogue test case

چکیده
Abstract. Monitoring active layer dynamics is critical for improving the understanding of near-surface thermal and hydrological processes in cryosphere. This study presents laboratory test a low-cost ground-penetrating radar (GPR) system within experiment freezing thawing monitoring. The an in-house-built low-power monostatic GPR antenna coupled with reflectometer piloted by single-board computer (SBC) was tested prior to field deployment. correspondence between frozen front electromagnetic (EM) reflection temperature allowed us ability closely monitor bottom reflection.

Robust Thin Layer Coal Thickness Estimation Using Ground Penetrating Radar
One of the most significant goals in coal mining technology research is the automation of underground coal mining machinery. A current challenge with automating underground coal mining machinery is measuring and maintaining a coal mining horizon. The coal mining horizon is the horizontal path the machinery follows through the undulating coal seam during the mining operation. A typical mining pr...

Snow stratigraphy and water percolation are key contributing factors to avalanche formation. So far, only destructive methods can provide this kind of information. Radar technology allows continuous, non-destructive scanning of the snowpack so that the temporal evolution of internal properties can be followed. We installed an upward-looking ground-penetrating radar system (upGPR) at the Weissfl...

متن کاملGround-Penetrating Radar
Ground-penetrating radar (GPR) has recently gained a wide acceptance in the archaeological community as a method that can quickly and accurately locate buried archaeological features, artifacts, and important cultural strata in the near-surface. The GPR method has been especially effective in certain sediments and soils between about 20 cm and 5 m below the ground surface, where the targets to ...
متن کاملSubsurface Imaging using Ground-Penetrating Radar Measurements
Much work has been done toward reconstructing the electrical parameters of an unknown buried object. Many methods, and accompanying results from simulations, have been presented. Most research in the area, however, has been in developing imaging algorithms that have been tested primarily through computer simulation. This paper presents a newly constructed facility for ground-penetrating radar e...
